melons oh my!

Last nite we sampled some of the melons here's the update...

Edens Gem- honeydew melon- WOW so sweet and yummy! i picked 2 thought they were kinda small until i reread the back of the seed package- softball size melons which means probably have 6 or 7 more ready to be picked!

Early Hanover- muskmelon-again another smaller melon 2 to 3 pds...the one we had was almost ripe it was ok

Collective Farm Woman-another 2pd size melon it was a bit crunchier than the others which was ok just different

Moon & Stars-watermelon- Robert really liked this one it was ok i think it could have gotten a bit sweeter and boy big melon seeds...Maggie really liked it!

Sweet baby-personal watermelon size-MMMMMM wow yummy sweet and small seeds so you can just eat them. I know the old wives tale my dad used to tell me if you eat a watermelon seed one will grow in your belly...and he would point out pregnant women...talk about freaking a kid out! Needless to say i made sure i never ate a seed!

Still waiting for that okra looks great and green but still no okra...i know patience...

first day of class....

Today was first day of my "Master Gardener Class" love the symbol on the book! Was very informative think i will like it, now i will have the book sense with all the dirt sense i already have.
The cauliflower popped up yesterday along with the red & green cabbage and romanesco-taking the longest-planted broccoli seeds today. Tomatoes are pretty much ready though i wish i had some milk carton jugs to put over them for wind protection as well as temperature fluctuations with the monsoons. They are trying so hard to come and visit us on the west side maybe tonight. I washed the car yesterday looked promising but atlas no rain or even dust blowing. It sure has changed over the last 35 years. Used to get the most wicked storms loss power rain pouring down flooding streets. Now if it rains it is a blessing. I used to re shingle that roof on Minnezona every summer 10 or 12 times bought a house with concrete tiles 12yrs ago the last good storm we had was 11 years ago, go fiquire.

Another day in the sun.....

forgot my hat, forgot my shirt....Maggie had to stay home her ear is acting up again but off i went. The Food bank plot is now 90% empty ready for fall the last of the squash dropped off at the women's shelter. One of the melons was cracked open....mmm kept me going in the heat!
The bee's are back...think there is more than before! Am hoping they vacate the tube as i need it for the cabbage plants once they are ready to transplant. Should be planting the new tomatoe starts this weekend they are small but already have other seeds under the light, cabbage, cauliflower and romanesco so they need to go.

Before the sun came out...

Off to the garden while it was still cool...finished getting 2 of the plots ready for fall planting even put in some green beans. The okra in the 3rd plot is coming along nicely but still not any okra in site as of yet.....

Even had a few visitors up at the garden..much to Maggie's dismay had to make sure she stayed put. The bee's are back appears they have nested in the cardboard tube i will be needing shortly for the cabbages.....

Back home to finish watching the "Dust Bowl" documentary...better get some work done almost one oclock already! Maybe another storm tonight but for now hot & muggy!

It's raining....

Woke up to thunder & lightening, just in time to watch it pour for about 10 minutes. Slowed down to a small sprinkle....no more thunder & lightening. So glad i finished pulling all the tomatoe plants out of the garden yesterday.
